Overview
The Department of Science has an interdisciplinary approach, we are committed to instilling rational thinking, creating scientific temper, and decision making amongst undergraduates. Students are taught basic and applied aspects of Botany, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Physics, and Zoology. The curriculum of the subjects trains the students in the laws of natural sciences through supportive practical experiments and field visits.
Vision
The Department strives towards transacting basic and applied science activities encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation, experiment, and personal experiences.
Mission
The department makes the students aware of eco-friendly farming and organic food. The department organizes various academic activities viz. lectures, plantations, conservation of environment activities, field visits, Eco Club activities, quizzes, etc. The curriculum of the department has changed from time to time, keeping the requirement of students of today’s world in focus. The Department of Science prepares the students to have analytical thinking, to be observant, to have a rationalistic approach, to value and conserve natural resources, and to be sensitive towards agrarian society.
Objectives:
- Students are trained in the basic and applied understanding of science disciplines
- The Science curriculum focuses on the exposure of students to science applications in real life.
- Students are exposed to applied tools of science such as biomedical methods, quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Students are exposed to the present environmental issues and also trained to use some of the tools such as economic assessment of the ecosystem, EIA, biodiversity assessment, etc.
Courses Offered
The department of science is involved in teaching basics and applied sciences to the students of M.Sc. Home Science, B.Sc. (P) and B.Sc. (H) of Home Science and B.Sc. (Food Tech). The Department is responsible for training students in various aspects of basic sciences such as zoology, botany, physics, and chemistry.
The faculty of the Department of Science is associated with various Post Graduate Departments like Food and Nutrition, Development Communication and Extension and Resource Management and Design Application to teach Postgraduate students and guide dissertation students.
