Resource Management & Design Application (RMDA)

Overview

The Department was established in the year 1964 as ‘Rural Community Extension’ under the aegis of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Government of India. The nomenclature ‘Community Resource Management and Extension’ came into being in 1983. In 2007, the Department was renamed ‘Resource Management and Design Application’ after the comprehensive curriculum revision. In the year 2010, another revision took place in the semester mode. In 2018, the department got another opportunity to revise its curriculum to CBCS (Choice Based Credit Scheme). The department is focusing on the management of various resources human, material and natural which are integrated with design functions. The curriculum includes creating design for spaces, products and services along with its analysis and evaluation with respect to human well-being, health, happiness and a sustainable environment. The course offers specialization in the areas of Space & Product Design and Environment Management and Sustainable Development wherein industry specific core competencies are developed. Students are provided academic inputs through the course curriculum as well as through experiential learning in relevant area to enrich the theoretical base.

Internships

Internship is an opportunity for post graduate students to get a hands-on experience in an organizational setting. 5 Workshop on Researches in sustainable development: conceptualization and presentation Workshop on researches in sustainable development: conceptualization and presentation has been held for Masters and doctoral students every year since 2012. The students are oriented towards the concept of green building rating systems like LEED, GRIHA etc. as the tools for certification of green buildings and the importance they possess in fostering the green building movement. The session is followed up by a brainstorming session on developing research ideas. The students work on the ideas which are discussed in the department forum from time to time over the year. The workshop culminates into a research poster design competition which comprises of several rounds including conceptualization, content, designing etc. The posters are judged by international jury.
